Two of the biggest terms that one encounters in VGM are west and east, and while they inherently don’t, – or shouldn’t – play a role in the quality of music, there are some appreciable differences that are worth being aware of in order to fully appreciate the music. Well folks, summer is here and it’s not getting any cooler. Well personally I think it probably would, maybe with some pop and beer stashed inside – but nevertheless, I thought why not make a compilation of some chill, refreshing water themes to fight against the increasing summer heat, which I hear is cracking the 90s in a lot of places. y(es that was one sentence!)

I’ve been waiting a long while to start this article because of the project that I’ve been a part of. The goal of it was to create a Canon of video game music so that anyone who wanted to listen to VG music, would have a good place to start.

Well today I was playing an online Video Game Music quiz and I happened upon the opening theme of Cannon Fodder. I’ll just say that I had no idea what was coming there, it starts out with ska chords and goes into “♫ War, never been so much fun…♫” So for the focus of this article I will talk about some attention grabbing intros. Not all of them need take the Cannon Fodder approach but all of them have some quality that makes them unforgettable.

Well I have been lagging on coming up with a new soundtrack to do, so I decided to go with my idea of making a top list of epic tracks. One of my favorite things about making this list was seeing how varied each track was from system to system and game to series.
