Video Games Have Given Us Back Our Faith?

Well it seems like a bold statement doesn’t it? They’re games. They tell pretty stories. Who comes off with this bizarre conclusion? Well I draw a lot of this from a lovely book by Joseph Campbell called The Power of Myth, and this particular quote:

 “We can’t have a mythology for a long, long time to come. Things are
changing too fast to become mythologized.”

Sounds simple enough – even if you don’t accept it. Now, where does faith come in?

Does Retro Mean Anything in Gaming Anymore?

As many times as a TV show or comic book breaks our thinking about how time flows: that it may just be circular instead of linear, is exactly how I feel about gaming these days. What we used to consider out of date, flawed, boring, and old-school has simply become “in”. It’s not an “old Nintendo” anymore, it’s a NES. It’s no longer a Mario T-shirt left over from my childhood, it’s the cool one I got from Hot Topic, or some clever pun shirt from Woot! In any event, I think it’s time we seriously considered if all of these interest groups tied to this concept of ‘retro gaming’, really still serve their original purpose.

Brueggemann Strikes Back! Sonicesque Vol. II

Well folks, it is the long anticipated release of Sonicesque Vol. II. Actually it’s a few months after the fact ^_^ but regardless, I had to make a post about it and give a nice breakdown of the OST. This collection is something new and fresh, and is jam packed with more sonic than your headphones have room for!

The War of Mascots

Well it seems like reddit is playing host to a barrage of video game characters appearing all over the word on windows and walls in post it notes and chalk. Whether it’s Sonic or Mario, every post seems to be snowballing into yet another picture appearing. Leading to a few back and forth battles turning… musical?, and also inspiring an entire group of engineering students to post it an entire building face. I just wonder where this will go from here.
